Kiev National University - named after Taras Shevchenko

Ukraine National University of Kiev, also known as: "Taras-Shevchenko University" - referred to as Kiev University. Taras Shevchenko National University in Kiev, Ukraine (referred to as Kiev University), located in the center of Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, was founded on July 15, 1834 and has a history of 189 years. It is the most famous comprehensive university in Ukraine, one of the ten famous universities in Europe, and once ranked sixteenth in the world universities. It occupies an important position among educational institutions in Europe and the world and enjoys a good reputation. It is the most important educational institution in Ukraine and the center of education, science and culture in Ukraine. 

According to authoritative statistics at the European Conference on Higher Education in 1998, Kiev University was recognized as the best higher education institution in Ukraine. In 1939 the university was named after Taras Shevchenko.

Taras Shevchenko is a Ukrainian and world-renowned thinker, poet, painter, and Ukrainian fighter for freedom.

The first rector MA Maximovich was a professor of Moscow State University, an eminent natural scientist, historian, folklorist and linguist. From 1837 to 1842, according to the design of Bereti, a famous professor of architecture at the Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts, a school building in Russian classical style was built. In the 1840s and 1850s, Kiev University was already the scientific center of Russia, and Tikhomandritsky, Grenko, Rachmaninov, Troutfetter, Pirogov, and Karavaye emerged. In the 1870s, new chemistry laboratories and physics laboratories were built on the campus. 

At the end of the 1980s, there were two libraries, a meteorological station, an observatory, a botanical garden and 21 offices.

From the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, the teaching of Kiev University was characterized by the widespread popularization and publicity of advanced scientific ideas and achievements, and nearly 10 academic groups carried out work in this area.

At this stage, Russian biologist Mechnikov, organic chemist Zayzhuv and Morkovnikov, "father of Russian aeronautics" Zhukovs, were elected as honorary members of the Kiev University Committee. Kyrgyzstan, geographer and traveler, Semyonov Zaoqiang Shansky, philologists Korzhi, Sobolevsky, Russian legal historian Sergiyevich, professor of Slavic languages and literature at the University of Vienna Yajich and others. Now, Kiev University has become an important national teaching and research center. The school has 13 departments (geography, economics, history, information technology, computer science and cybernetics, mechanical mathematics, sociology, psychology, radiation physics, electronics and computer systems, physics, philosophy, chemistry, law, etc.).

Kiev University maintains extensive international ties with universities around the world, and has established friendly cooperative relations with 227 universities and educational institutions from 55 countries.

The school also has school libraries, museums, gymnasiums, gymnasiums, student apartments, etc. The library of Kiev University was built in 1834 and is one of the largest libraries in Ukraine. It has 13 departments, 30 reading rooms, more than 2,000 seats, and a collection of 3,500,000 volumes in various disciplines. The library has a subscription system and cooperates with 328 foreign libraries.
