Kharkiv State Economic University

In 1893 the Kharkiv Business School was established. In 1912 the college opened advanced business courses, and in 1916 it gained the status and rights of a business school. Between 1918 and 1921, Simon Kuznets, Nobel Laureate in Economics (1971), studied at the academy. In 1920 the institute was transformed by the Soviet authorities into the Kharkiv Institute of National Economy. During the higher education reform process of 1930, it was divided into several departmental universities. And changed its name to Kharkiv Institute of Engineering and Economics. On 1 October 1930 a celebration was held as the founding date of the University. The Institute trained engineers and economists for Ukraine's heavy industries: mining, metallurgy, basic and coke chemistry, machine building. In 1994 the Institute received the Class IV accreditation of the State Higher Education Institution and officially changed its name to Kharkov State Economic University on April 20, 1994. The university was granted state status on August 21, 2004.

Today the university ranks in Ukraine: among the top 3 most popular universities in Kharkiv, among the top 3 most popular specialized economic universities in Ukraine, among the top 20 most attractive universities in Ukraine.

The university joined the Association of European Universities in 2009 and became a member. The University has also established cooperation agreements and partnerships with more than 50 universities in the European Union, Russia and CIS countries, the United States and Canada, and East Asian countries. The University regularly participates in or hosts international scientific and practical conferences or forums on issues related to the formulation of socio-economic development programs of the Kharkov region.

Since 2000, the university has actively supported student cultural and community initiatives. The university has a youth organization, a youth center, 30 student amateur groups. Traditional festivals, contests and competitions are held: "Student Spring", "First Show", KVN "Mr" and "Miss KNEU", debate and orator championships, "Golden Compass", etc.
